On Thursday 13 September 55 primary school students of the Waubra School participated in educational activities to learn about sustainable energy and their local wind farm. Acciona Energy supported this educational activity as part of its community relations program.
The event was initiated by the Waubra Wind Farm Community Reference Group. Community members suggested organising an educational activity for the Waubra School to help local children understand what renewable energy is about and how their local wind farm will work.
‘Indy the Energy Explorer’ visited the Waubra School and involved students in ‘hands on’ activities to learn about sustainable energy. The children enjoyed participating in activities to understand different energy sources and pretended to be scientists measuring the wind speed at different locations to find the windiest and best spots for wind turbines. Students were particularly impressed by the size of a wind turbine, when they marked out the length of the turbine blades on the ground.
